 During and after floods

  • Boil tap water first before drinking
  • Ensure that hot and boiling water is kept away from children
  • Ensure that it is stored in tight sealed containers after cooling
  • Advisable to save rain water for drinking and cooking purposes
  • Boil rain water too before drinking.  
During and after burst water mains
  • Let tap water run for 3 to 5 minutes before drinking to allow mud and dirt particles run off and water to clear off
  • Let tap water run for 3 to 5 minutes if water is milky and color is not clear. This happens when there are too much air bubbles in the water system.
  • Before and during power blackout
  • Store as much water before and during power blackouts, as most treatment plants and pumping stations are run by electricity. 
Before and during intermittent supply of water
  • Store as much water, especially for those residing in elevated or high areas within the Authority’s reticulation.
Use of fire hydrants
  • Customers are strongly advised to refrain from opening fire hydrants and valves during any supply disruption period
  • This will jeopardize and hinder restoring water works.
  • Anyone found doing so will be prosecuted and fined for a minimum of a thousand dollars.
